For
the second year in succession we have purchased the Christmas Fatstock Champion at Louth Livestock Market.
This
year saw the 80th Annual Christmas Fatstock Show take place on
Thursday 3rd December and the overall Champion was the Limousin
cross steer ‘Sex on Fire’ from Louise Todd of D. T. Todd Farming at East Torrington near Wragby. Louise was also last year’s winner. The event, judged this year by David Wright of Boston,
showcases some of the best livestock from around the county and sees strong
competition from top local farmers for the coveted Champion title.
The Champion weighed in at 632kgs live weight and
produced a carcase of 419kgs with an MLC Grade of E3. It is expected to produce
around 335kgs of beef for the shop. The hammer fell at £4.05 per kilo live weight,
totalling £2559.60.
Beef from the
champion will be available from the shop from 21st
December onwards, although orders are already being taken from some customers
keen to make sure they don’t miss out!
