BBC Young Butcher of the Year

16th Nov 2009
Having made it through the prelinary rounds Jim Sutcliffe, Manager of Meridian Meats, has beaten the finest young butchers in the UK to be titled BBC Young Butcher of the Year in the latest TV talent show.

The programme was aired on BBC3 on Monday 16 November when the five finalists were pitched against each other in a series of testing challenges. The first of these challenges was to butcher a quarter of beef into four different traditional cuts. Jim impressed the judges in the second section with his innovative curried goat and mango chutney sausages.

He survived the first round of eliminations and was a cut above his competitors in the quiz section getting only one question wrong. After surviving another round of eliminations it was down to the final where Jim and his competitor had to prepare a shop window.

Jim really impressed the judges David Lishman, owner of Lishmans of Ilkley and Justin Preston co-owner of Allens of Mayfair with his innovative flair, passion and determination.
